The traditional tatami is made of a natural plant called “igusa (rush)” with varied qualites, some countries prohibit the import natural items or require a quarantine inspection. Washi Tatami is woven by a very sturdy Japanese paper called “Washi”. The visual and texture are no different from igusa tatami, as washi tatami is manufactured in the factory, the quality is uniform and there is NO need for the hassle with quarantine inspections.
